Potential Pledgers,
My name is Jesse Wolfe. I am 21 years old, and currently a student of architecture at Washington State University. When I was 10 I was diagnosed with a degenerative hip disorder known as Legg-Calve- Perthes Syndrome. It’s a lack of blood supplied to the ball of your hip that makes it disintegrate. When I was 10 this made me collapse at home, and when I was brought to the hospital my little brother, who was 8 at the time, diagnosed me with Legg-Calve –Perthes. My little brother had had the disease a few years before.
Children’s Hospital in Seattle is where I was sent for my treatment. I underwent 3 surgeries in 2 years. My first surgery put the ball of my hip back in the socket it had fallen out of, as well as placing a shelf of grafted bone over the socket to prevent it from coming out again. The second was to fix the damage my limp had done in twisting my leg; so my leg was broken, twisted 30 degrees and a metal plate was put in to hold it together. The third was to destroy my left knee growth plate to attempt to make my limp more subtle. I made it through all these with the support of my family, and my orthopedic team at Children’s Hospital.
Since the surgeries I have been very active and still able to participate in sports. I continued to play baseball, and soccer. As well as playing Lacrosse my sophomore, junior, and senior years of high school. I was given the honors of 1st team all-state goalie, as well as the captain of my lacrosse team my junior and senior years.
I would not be able to be this active without the care given to me by Children’s Hospital. So I’m going to use this ability to be active and to give back. I am asking for your help in giving back. There are 2 ways to pledge funds. The first is to give a donation; this is just a straight forward, non-variable donation. The second way is to donate by mile. The mile donation is multiplied by the number of miles completed. There are 204 miles in the ride, but this donation will be done out of 200 miles. If you wish to pledge $40 dollars you could do a $0.20 per mile pledge or a $40 dollar general pledge. Donations over $120 will have the option to put their logo or name on a bike jersey which will be worn during the ride. My goal for the ride is $2000. The funds will be collected the week following the race. I plan to give these donations to the Uncompensated Care Fund. This fund allows those less fortunate to be given the care that has changed my life.
The ride itself is a 204 mile ride from Seattle to Portland that can be completed in 1 or 2 days. This year’s ride is on the 9th and 10th of July. Last year the event was full with 10,000 riders. This will be my first STP and my plan is to do the ride in 1 day. In terms of training I am joining the Washington State University Cycling Club, and will be competing in races this spring, as well as the weekly training rides on Saturday mornings. I also do my own training rides of about 30 miles currently every to every other day (weather permitting).
Thank you for your support for this cause,
Jesse Wolfe
P.s. This is a 501(c)3 So if you would like to make the donation tax deductible please write yes under reciept.
